BGO refractive index

BGO refractive index

Postby jstarlack » Mon Feb 06, 2012 6:03 pm

This is a very useful site! Thank you for putting it together.

I have a question regarding the refractive index of the scintillator BGO. It is usually quoted at around 2.15 at the emission maximum (480nm)
http://www.detectors.saint-gobain.com/BGO.aspx

Yet, it is listed here at 2.57 in 588 nm which, given the Abbe number is, increases to 2.67 at 480 nm. Also, Here is a peer-reviewed publication which lists the index at 2.15

Much Thanks

It turns out that the BGO I have in the database is not of the most common type (Bi12GeO20 and Bi4Ge3O12) respectively. I will add data for Bi4Ge3O12 shortly. Thanks for the reference, it looks very useful!

Much thanks for your prompt response!

For those of us interested in x-ray detectors, it would great to see the following in the database:

CdWO4 - Cadmium Tungstate

Gd2O2S - Gadolinium oxysulfide (GOS)

Gd2SiO5 - Gadolinium orthosilicate (GSO)

Lu2SiO5 - Lutetium oxyorthosilicate (LSO)

I would really appreciate it if, at your convenience, you could add these in. Thanks in advance!
